Aims

The first aim of the module is to further develop students' problem solving abilities and ability to select techniques and apply the knowledge gained from the first year of Business Management study to authentic work situations. Specifically, within this aim, the module will:
1) develop students' ability to solve a problem in depth over an extended period and produce reports;
2) develop students' ability to communicate management scholarship to audiences of differing managerial perspectives, including other academics, business clients and the general public;
3) develop an appreciation of how groups operate in the context of serving an external client, different roles in group work, and the different skills required to successfully operate as a team.
The second aim of the module is to develop students' employability skills in key areas such as public speaking, time management, project management, and professionalism.

(LO1) Students will be able to select appropriate techniques and apply Business Management knowledge to solve problems situated in real-world phenomena.

(LO2) Students will be able to produce reports based on the development of a piece of work, in depth over an extended period of time.

Syllabus

 

'Kick off’ team building and integration exercises, with a focus on group formation.
Building on ULMS151: further study of team roles and group work, individual competencies and skills.
An introduction to the theory, methods, and practices of Experiential Learning; supported by directed reading

A single student-led group project investigation, suitable for FHEQ Level 5, which will require students to demonstrate adaptable problem solving skills in addressing project briefs from business or industry.
Building on ULMS115: Reporting management study results in written form for different audiences, presentation techniques, and communication skills for managers
Building on EBUS102: Project and task management for management research projects.
Opportunity to further investigate/apply techniques from MKIB153, ACFI107, ECON127, and ECON154, project depending
Projects outputs must be suitable for specified audiences, which could be business clients, management academics specialists or the general public.
