Aims

To require students to demonstrate organisational leadership and senior consultancy or advisory capabilities and relevant professional skills, through the context of an integrated case study.


Learning Outcomes

(LO1) Students will be able to apply excellent leadership and ethical skills to set the ‘tone from the top’ and promote a positive culture within the organisation, adopting a whole organisation perspective in managing performance and value creation.

(LO2) Students will be able to evaluate the effectiveness of the governance and agency system of an organisation and recognise the responsibility of the board or other agents towards their stakeholders, including the organisation’s social responsibilities and the reporting implications.

(LO3) Students will be able to evaluate the strategic position of the organisation against the external environment and the availability of internal resources, to identify feasible strategic options.

(LO4) Students will be able to analyse the risk profile of the organisation and of any strategic options identified, within a culture of responsible risk management.

(LO5) Students will be able to select and apply appropriate information technologies and data analytics, to analyse factors affecting the organisation’s value chain to identify strategic opportunities and implement strategic options within a framework of robust IT security controls.

(LO6) Students will be able to evaluate management reporting and internal control and audit systems to ensure compliance and the achievement of organisation’s objectives and the safeguarding of organisational assets.

(LO7) Students will be able to apply high level financial techniques in the planning, implementation and evaluation of strategic options and actions.

(LO8) Students will be able to enable success through innovative thinking, applying best in class strategies and disruptive technologies in the management of change; initiating, leading and organising projects, while effectively managing talent and other business resources.

(LO9) Students will be able to apply a range of Professional Skills in addressing requirements within the Strategic Leader examination and in preparation for, or to support, current work experience.

(S1) Flexibility and adaptability. Adaptability is demonstrated in lectures and assessments by reflecting on and responding to different scenarios and environments.

(S2) Problem solving skills. Problem solving is an integral part of the learning and assessment process due to its practical nature.

(S3) Numeracy. Numeracy skills will be developed through the application of techniques taught in lectures to various data sets.

(S4) Commercial awareness. Commercial awareness is developed through the use of practical real life examples in the lectures and supported self-learning.

(S5) Organisational skills. Organisational skills will be developed through prioritising time and deadlines, including time management in assessments.

(S6) Communication skills. Communication skills will be developed through practice examples and formative and summative assessment.

(S7) International awareness. Students will be encouraged to reflect on the international relevance of each topic studied.

(S8) Lifelong learning skills. Practical learning techniques which will provide a foundation for future learning and development.

(S9) Ethical awareness. Coverage of examples about ethical awareness in the interactive lecture environment and supported self learning.

(S10) Leadership. Team leading and scenario-based learning which put the student in the role of a business leader.


Teaching and Learning Strategies

Interactive Lectures x 126 hours
Lectures will be delivered in full day blocks (18 days x 7 hours). A full day block of lectures involves the student attending class from 9am to 5pm with breaks. The day involves a range of activities which can include lectures, guided scenario and question practice, group work and open discussion on relevant business areas. Full day contact with academic staff therefore provides the opportunity for students to interact with each other and with academic staff, to work in teams and receive real time guidance.

Formative Progress Test x 4 hours

Self-directed learning x 270 hours
Students will utilise self-directed learning hours to undertake follow-up suggested work and wider reading.
