Aims

The module aims to provide students with an understanding of some of the key skills required of the professional accountant in the current business environment, and the opportunity to acquire and apply those skills.

Teaching and Learning Strategies

Teaching Method 1: Workshop
Description: Seven three hour workshop to introduce key themes and present theory and practical examples, alongside a final workshop of two-hours to reflect on the skills acquired and how to ensure that they are developed further on completion of the module.
Scheduled Directed Student Hours: 23
Unscheduled Directed Students hours: Students will be required to work within their assessment teams outside of workshop.

Teaching Method 2: Workshop (Library)
Description: One and a half hour sessions providing an opportunity to be resourceful in utilising the academic facilities in the library.
Scheduled Directed Student Hours: 1.5
Unscheduled Directed Student Hours: Students will be required to further their understanding of the academic facilities outside of the workshop.

Notes: The ses sion will be run by the ULMS liaison librarian and facilitated by relevant academic advisors.

Teaching Method 3: Workshop (Careers)
Description: A one hour session providing an opportunity to research the skills required in the graduate recruitment market.
Scheduled Directed Student Hours: 1
Unscheduled Directed Student Hours: Students will be required to further their understanding of the skills required by a graduate accountant through visiting Careers outside of the workshop.

Notes: The session will be delivered by the member of academic staff in their academic advisor groups.

Self-Directed Learning Hours: 124.5
Description: The module will be assessed through the use of two team-based activities, which will require students to work outside of class on a regular basis throughout the semester.
