Aims

To provide conceptual frameworks within which to formulate and analyse global strategy;

To provide practical experience of formulating strategy;

To analyse theory and evidence regarding the configuration and governance of international operations;

To analyse conceptual frameworks within which to frame ethical conduct in international business.

Notes: An international business simulation game will be used to allow students to practice the formulation and adjustment of strategy and to reflect on the outcomes and quality of their own strategic decision making. This simulation will provide the foundation for the cour sework assessment.

The resource-based view of the firm as a foundation to strategic thinking and an introduction to dynamic capabilities;

The institutional paradigm in international business and cultural and ethical considerations in global strategy;

Foreign market entry and entry strategies;

Entrepreneurship and international business, including rapidly-internationalising new ventures;

Strategic alliances and networks in international business;

Global competitive dynamics, including repeated interaction of competing firms in multiple geographic markets;

Supply and transportation logistics and the rise of the Global Factory;

Diversification, acquisition and restructuring in international business including worldwide learning, innovation and knowledge management;

Corporate governance in the mutinational enterprise;

Corporate Social Respon sibility in the international context;

Emerging economies and global strategy.
