Aims

This module is aims to develop an ability to develop entrepreneurial ideas and to turn them into a concrete business plan. It aims to support those students who are considering a career in business support and consultancy and at developing entrepreneurship and small firms.

Syllabus

 

Week 1: Key issues in entrepreneurship and developing a start-up via SimVenture;

The first session will provide an introduction to the course reviewing the main aims of the module, the ways in which it will be taught and the ways that the various elements will be assessed. In addition, an overview of the issues and perspectives in the field of entrepreneurship will be given;

The SimVenture business simulation will also be introduced and the students will form their small groups to develop their business plan for the subsequent sessions;

Lastly, this session will provide an overview of what is required to develop the individual start-up ideas; how to carry the weekly learning log/diary, which will be carried out after the simulation is completed;

Weeks 2, 3 and 4: SimVenture simulation;

These sessions will be used to carry out the business simulation which will form the basis for the group report and presentation. Week 4 will involve the presentations fr om each team of the SimVenture simulation;

Weeks 5 to 11: Self-learning work;

Each student will submit their weekly learning log/diary to the course leader at a specified time. These sessions will be used to carry out the business simulation which will form the basis for the group report and presentation. Week 4 will involve the presentations from each team of the SimVenture simulation. In addition, each student will be expected to contribute to the VITAL forum to share knowledge to others on the course;

Week 12: Summary session;

The final session of the course will focus on linking together the different elements of the module and to allow the students to feedback on their learning experiences.
