Teaching and Learning Strategies

Teaching Method: Lecture
Description: Key themes will be presented in lectures

Notes: At the end of each class every student will hand in a document detailing a key piece of learning for the session. This will be a part of their mark for the module and evidence of attendance.

Teaching Method: Seminar
Description: EBL style seminars with students having to carry out a task relating to their lecture. This will be typically group activity and involve pair programming.

Self-Directed Learning Description: This will consist of preparation for seminars (reading journal articles, carrying out basic analytic tasks for discussion) and work on assignments.


Syllabus

 

Content will include areas such as: Transition to Higher Education (reflection on skills, development of independent learning, expectations of HE); Developing academic scholarship (reading, taking notes, searching databases, reading academic articles, essay writing, referencing) Team work Presenting professionally Professional behaviour (business communications and etiquette) Report writing (communicating ideas concisely, using evidence, writing an Executive Summary) Using Excel or other technical software Using quantitative data Reflective practice Networking and graduate insights – programme-specific
