Aims

The module aims to critically engage students who may not be from an architectural background with current architectural theory and / or practice. Giving students the opportunity to develop an area of personal interest in conjuction with a wider multidisciplinary agenda allows them to view their work in a wider context.

(LO1) Students should demonstrate the ability to research and present, both in written and oral form, a well researched project on an agreed topic

(LO2) Student should develop research skills and present a critical appraisal of an architectural theory, building or architect

Syllabus

 

The content and syllabus will vary from student to student based on their chosen topic and area of interest. Students select an area of personal or professional interest to them and are encouraged to critically appraise this in relation to a London based project. This might be the work of an individual architect or designer, a buidling or urban area. This is developed through tutorials and may lead to further development in the Thesis project.


Teaching and Learning Strategies

Teaching Method 1 - Seminar
Description: individual tutorials and seminars focussed around the individual project. Supplimentary lectures and seminars where appropriate (eg research ethics or othe rtopics relevant to their projects)

Description: students maintain a VITAL based wiki as a a diary/project record.
