Dr Robin Flynn BSc, PGCHE, PhD

Personal Statement

Robin Flynn graduated from University College Dublin with a BSc (Hons) in zoology in 2004. He undertook an IRCSET funded PhD, supervised by Prof Grace Mulcahy, at UCD School of Veterinary Medicine between 2004-2007. During this period he worked on the impact of Fasciola hepatica infection on host immunity and immunoregulation during co-infection. Following his PhD he undertook a period of postdoctoral training with Dr Andrew McKenzie at the Medical Research Council Laboratory of Molecular Biology Cambridge. Here he was engaged in work attempting to identify the source and role of IL-25 in allergic airway disease and parasite infection. In 2009 he moved to the University of Nottingham School of Veterinary Medicine & Science where he became a Lecturer and established his own group working on the host immune response to parasite infection and understanding this for the purpose of improving vaccines and diagnostics. In 2014 he completed his post-graduate certificate in higher education and in 2015 he became an associate professor. In 2016 Robin moved to the Department of Infection Biology at IGH Liverpool where his group continues to work on the same themes.
