Poll Everywhere is a web-based service, which allows users to conduct polls and then watch the results in real time using either Microsoft PowerPoint or a web-browser. In the University environment, it enables lecturers to create open-ended or multiple-choice questions, which students can respond to via text, twitter or the website. It is known from existing research that voting systems promote active learning.

PeerWise is a free online service that allows students to write, share, answer and review multiple-choice questions (MCQs). It has been used informally and successfully with veterinary students.
