The month of April saw the Institute of Infection, Veterinary and Ecological Sciences Public Engagement Showcase taking place. Held at the Art School Library, our researchers celebrated all the successful ways that the Institute has engaged the public with key research in a variety of ways.

Faculty Public Engagement Officer Laura Winters kicked off the event by talking about the support tools that are available to the Faculty as well as all the public engagement opportunities that are available such as Meet the Scientists, Pint of Science, Cheltenham Science Festival and in 2023/24 FameLab.

A key engagement activity for the Faculty has been ‘Meet the Scientists’, which has engaged over 25000 members of the public and over 700 staff and students since 2015. The Faculty also established the Liverpool Pint of Science series in 2017, bringing research into the city and engaging over 2000 members of the public to date.

The event had talks from engagement and involvement practitioners such as Emily Clarke on the equine and canine public involvement panel, Susie Philips on conserving Cheshire’s water voles, Dr Dan Hungerford on ‘capturing and exchanging multinational perceptions of maternal and neonatal immunisation’ and Dr Tamzin Furtado on her work regarding obesity recognition and management at UK horse shows.

Laura Winters, Faculty lead for Public Engagement who organised the event said: “It was great to see and hear about the research being undertaken in a range of areas across IVES, as well as its links to other institutes across the Faculty. We look forward to the next one.”
