Personal Statement
Dr Tessa Prince is currently a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Liverpool working in the field of high-consequence infectious diseases. She has a BSc in Microbiology from the National University of Ireland, Galway (2005), an MSc in Medical and Molecular Microbiology from the University of Manchester (2009) and a pHD in Translational medicine from the University of Manchester (2013). In 2012 she joined the NHS to train as a clinical scientist and completed the NHS Scientist Training Programme in 2015. In 2016 she was recruited to the University of Liverpool where she worked on host responses to infection and the development of diagnostic tests for neurological infections. In 2020, Dr Prince helped support the ISARIC-4C research response to COVID-19 before moving to the respiratory and emerging viruses group under Professor Julian Hiscox to coordinate and lead on the isolation and growth of SARS-CoV-2 variants at high containment. Since joining the group Dr Prince has also developed strategies to approach the study of MERS-CoV at high containment and is implementing the development of live-cell imaging and super-resolution microscopy of viral infections within biocontainment. Tessa is a member of the UK-International Coronavirus Network (UK-ICN).
