Four National Productivity Investment Fund (NPIF) studentships are available.

The AHRC NWCDTP has been given funding for four studentships to start in October 2018 under the National Productivity Investment Fund (NPIF).

These additional awards will be allocated to two areas as follows:

  • Data Driven Research
  • Artificial Intelligence

Nature of the studentships

The support for A.I. builds on the recent report published by BEIS and DCMS, ‘Growing the Artificial Intelligence Industry in the UK’.

More broadly, the funding for these studentships is to support skills gaps and vulnerabilities relevant to recognised and identified industrial need, including new approaches that are enabled by big data and novel analytical tools.

Studentships would need to demonstrate alignment with the Industrial Strategy and involve an industry engagement or collaboration with an industry partner.

In case of a Collaborative Doctoral Award proposal, applications should be made jointly by a supervisor in one of the NWCDTP institutions and a co-supervisor at a non-HEI organisation.

Recruitment process

In order to apply for these studentships, the potential supervisor must submit the Application Form to NWCDTP@manchester.ac.uk  by 1pm on Monday 21st May 2018.

NWCDTP Academic Leads will be asked to review applications for their institutions and provide a supporting statement for each of them, before applications are finally reviewed by the DTP Studentship Allocation Committee, on Wednesday 30th May 2018.

Any questions related to the themes, or potential projects can be directed to institutional leads:

The University of Liverpool lead is Professor Kate Marsh: clmarsh@liverpool.ac.uk
