PhD students awarded fellowships at the University of Georgia
Two Liverpool PhD students, Joseph Kelly and Richard G. Smith, have been awarded Franklin College-University of Liverpool Doctoral Student Short-Term International Research Fellowships, which will take them to the University of Georgia (UGA) in the USA.
Richard said:
“I'm excited to have been awarded an International Research Fellowship with the University of Georgia. My research focuses on the intersection of politics and Christianity in Chile in the twentieth century, more specifically liberation theology, the revolutionary religious movement that swept across Latin America in the 1960s and 1970s.
The department of history at UGA has a strong interest
in Latin America and a number of key researchers on Argentinian and Brazilian social, political and cultural history. Another research strength within the department is religion. My host, Professor Oscar Chamosa, has written on Peronism and cultural nationalism in Argentina, which offers a great opportunity for Southern Cone comparative history.”
Angela Alexander was the successful recipient of the same award on the UGA side and she is set to visit the University of Liverpool in May.
