‌A collaborative partnership between Dr Nick Webb in the School of Architecture at Liverpool, Dr Alex Buchanan in the Department of History and JR Peterson, technician in the School of Histories, Languages and Cultures, has received funding from the Paul Mellon Centre for the Studies in British Art.

The team will start with a pilot project at Chester Cathedral before travelling to Somerset to survey the aisle vaults of the presbytery of Wells Cathedral using 3D laser scanning. This method will enable us to make accurate digital models of the medieval gothic vaults to test a theory about how they were designed and constructed.
