PhD Student at the Library of Congress
Emily Trafford – a PhD researcher in the Department of History – recently completed a four month fellowship at the Library of Congress. The fellowship was part of the International Placement Scheme run by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, from which Emily receives funding for her doctoral studies.
Emily’s research focuses on live human displays at turn of the twentieth century World’s Fairs, which she uses to examine issues of race on the west coast of the United States. Her placement allowed her to conduct primary research in the archives of the Library of Congress and the Smithsonian Institution. Emily also presented her work in progress to resident scholars at the Library of Congress’s John W. Kluge Center.
