Professor Ditchfield is one of our most prominent scholars of Roman Catholicism, and enjoys an international reputation - reflected in his membership of editorial boards based from Brescia to Amsterdam to Milan and Rome. Most recently, he has edited with Helen Smith Conversions: Gender and Religious Change in Early Modern Europe. In this paper, he will consider early modern Catholicism from a trans-national perspective, asking what role the period played in the making of today’s global religion
