Dr Alan Southern

Principal Investigator for the Social Economy

Biography

Alan is the academic lead on the social economy for the Heseltine Institute for Public Policy, Practice and Place. This work involves a broader network of practitioners and academic colleagues in the Liverpool City Region and beyond. He has been involved in the development of the Management School since April 2002 when he joined from the University of Durham.

In the past, Alan has held various roles and led the development of the Management School online programmes and in 2010 was appointed as the University Director of e-Learning, acting as the strategic lead for all university online programmes.

Alan moved back into the Management School in 2014 and his current role covers teaching and research activities focused on the social economy and in particular, enterprise in low income communities, and community assets.
