Liverpool Magnetic Resonance Imaging Centre (LiMRIC)

Structural and Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging

The Liverpool Magnetic Resonance Imaging Centre (LiMRIC) is housed in a bespoke building in the heart of the University's north campus. In addition to the new Siemens Prisma 3T, the centre also contains all the necessary infrastructure and expertise for human research.

The LiMRIC team comprises highly skilled scientists, radiographers and technicians. Their experience and expertise provides high level support for structural and functional MRI in patients of all ages or in preserved samples. Techniques routinely undertaken at the centre include structural MRI, fMRI, 1H and 31P MRS.

MR scanners

Our Siemens Prisma 3T scanner is capable of structural and functional magnetic resonance studies. It is standard clinical/research unit, with custom exercise rigs.

We also have facilities for electromyography (EMG) and near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS)

The centre maintains the highest ethical, clinical governance and safety standards. Along with its MRI scanners there are high quality patient accommodation areas and well equipped laboratories for undertaking preparatory or supporting work. As experts in the field, they are happy to advise on all aspects of MRI, including ethical considerations and clinical governance at the outset of a project.

As a centre of expertise with strong research links on the campus they have been involved in a wide range of research projects. Most recently they have undertaken investigations in the following areas:

  • Muscle and liver lipid and body fat compartments
  • Neuroscience research
  • Musculoskeletal MRI scanning

Wherever your research interests lie, they have the experience and expertise to support you in all areas, from design to data analysis.
