Information for the public and schools

Here at Liverpool we want to share our research with you and give you the opportunity to help shape our work.

We run a variety of events throughout the year including talks, science in the pub, workshops and meet the scientists days where you can chat to our researchers and get hands-on with some exciting activities! Most of our events are open to everyone, but we do run some events which are aimed at specific audiences such as schools and patient groups.

At these events you can discover more about cutting-edge and interesting topics in health and life sciences, and further information about all our events can be found below.

Our researchers have also created some brilliant videos to share with you some of the exciting research happening here in Liverpool. Check them out on our 'Discover our Research' page.

If you have any questions about any of our events please contact laura.winters@liverpool.ac.uk

Do you like science, like pints and think you can give an interesting talk about your research to the public, in a pub …. then we want to hear from you!

Pint of Science is an annual Festival which takes place in cities across the world in May, and sees brilliant scientists chat about their latest research with the public in a pub!

The Pint of Science Festival will be returning to Liverpool from the 14th - 16th May 2018. We are currently looking for researchers from the University of Liverpool with ideas for fun and engaging talks to take part in the events.

No previous experience of taking part in a similar event is required, and there will also be a pint on the night for everyone who takes part!!

There are two ways to get involved - either by being an event speaker (open to everyone at PhD level and above) and giving a 20 min talk about your research, or by taking part in Shots of Science (open to Masters/PhD students and early career researchers), where you will be challenged to explain your research in just 2 -3 mins!

You can apply now via our online form and applications close on the 12th of February.

Please contact laura.winters@liverpool.ac.uk if you have any questions about the event.

    Musculoskeletal Biology Patient Involvement Panel

The Institute of Ageing and Chronic Disease Musculoskeletal Biology Patient Involvement Panel (PIP) was established in 2017.

Chaired by Dr Helen Wright, the panel is a way for our researchers to access the valuable input of patients into their work.

Meetings are held 3 times a year with the aim of:

    • Providing a new pair of eyes for reseach ideas
    • Helping researchers to write lay summaries
    • Reviewing applications to funders that require public involvement
    • Helping researchers present their research in an easy to understand manner

Our panel is made up of around 10 patient insight partners who together have personal or family experience of a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions, including:

    • Osteoarthritis
    • Rheumatoid Arthritis
    • Psoriatic Arthritis
    • Ankylosing Spondylitis
    • Vasculitis
