Mr Samuel Butler

Sam graduated from the University of Liverpool with a History BA (Hons) in 2012, before serving as President of Liverpool Guild of Students from 2012 to 2014.

With the Guild Presidency sparking an interest in University governance, Sam went on to work as an Institutional Reviewer for the UK Quality Assurance Agency, eventually taking a role within the Appeals team. 

Following the completion of the Graduate Diploma in Law and gaining a Distinction in his Law, Business and Management MSc from the University of Law, Sam trained as a solicitor at DLA Piper, one of the largest commercial law firms in the world. Sam is now an Associate specialising in Employment law in the North West team. His training background also included financial markets, commercial real estate and intellectual property and technology. His particular interest at DLA Piper is in the Health and Life Sciences Sector.

Sam's other external roles have included sitting as an external member of the University’s UK Alumni Board and the Academic Board and the Academic Standards Committee of the University of Law, as well as a Non-Executive Directorship of NUS Services Limited.

Outside work Sam likes to keep up to date with current affairs, and has written for The Independent on a number of topics. Sam also enjoys making the most of the North West's theatre, music and cultural scene, and is a sports enthusiast.
