We are developing a new partnership with Vanderbilt University. Vanderbilt is a prestigious, highly ranked private university, known for high quality research and scholarship.

Based in Nashville, Tennessee there is a natural musical affinity between the two universities and the city of Liverpool. Vanderbuilt Unviersity is located on a major inland waterway and hosts a port of historical and current significance on the Cumberland/Mississippi River.

Vanderbilt is renowned for its Music School and is also strong in the fields of Social Sciences as well as the Arts and Humanities. It’s medical and nursing schools are highly regarded in the USA.

Our research collaboration with Vanderbilt aims to be broad, encompassing Life Sciences, Arts and Humanities as well as Maritime and Artificial Intelligence. 

The Liverpool – Vanderbilt Research Seed Fund

This fund will be open for applications from Friday 2 October until 30 October 2026, with the following themes as priority themes for 2026:

  • Music and creative industries - music, museum studies, film
  • Defense and security - cybersecurity, intelligence, data and algorithms, defense and secure systems engineering
  • Healthcare and life sciences - drug discovery, therapeutics, infection health data science, precision medicine, biomedical and assistive technology
  • Energy, climate, and sustainability - climate change mitigation & adaption, infrastructure resilience and risk, clean energy systems, environmental modelling, carbon capture and storage
  • Slavery studies - North American Slavery, French Slavery, British Slavery, modern slavery, Abolition studies, Haiti Studies
  • Other areas of mutual expertise.
