The launch of the new UK Coronavirus Immunology Consortium (UK-CIC) aims to address key unanswered questions about immunity and COVID-19 to help develop better diagnostics, treatments and vaccines. The Liverpool Outbreak Laboratories will support this major collaboration of 17 UK institutions, who are combining their research expertise to fight the coronavirus pandemic.
Female led countries' COVID-19 outcomes "systematically and significantly better"
Female national leaders locked down earlier and suffered half as many COVID deaths on average as male leaders, according to analysis across 194 countries by the University of Liverpool.
Major UK study of cancer and COVID-19 launched
A new UK study has been launched to assess the impact of COVID-19 on people with cancer. The study is a companion to the highly successful UK arm of the International Severe Acute Respiratory and Emerging Infection Consortium (ISARIC) Coronavirus Clinical Characterisation Consortium (ISARIC4C), which is led by researchers from Liverpool, Edinburgh and Imperial College London.
