Alumnus relives graduation, 50 years on

University of Liverpool alumnus and former Chief Executive of Thomson Travel Group Plc, Paul Brett, has returned to campus to mark the 50th anniversary of his graduation.
Paul, who completed a BA in Geography in 1965, revisited the Philharmonic Hall to stand on the stage where he graduated, exactly 50 years ago to the day.
Paul said: “It’s wonderful to be able to revisit the Philharmonic Hall; I haven’t been back since my graduation. I don’t remember too much from the day, I was too busy trying not to fall over or drop the certificate on stage!
“I was a student in Liverpool during the ‘white heat’ of the swinging 60s – I saw the Beatles play at the Cavern Club in 1962, and still have my membership card! So much has changed in the city, and the University since then, but the original grandeur and spirit still remains.”
Last year, Paul made a generous donation to the University to support the refurbishment of the new MBA teaching facility in the Management School. In recognition of this support, the building was named the Brett Building, in memory of Paul’s late mother, Kathleen.
As a gift on this special anniversary, Paul was then presented with a framed photograph of the Brett Building by John Armstrong, Interim Director of Philanthropy and Alumni Relations.
