Degrees that open doors

We constantly review our programmes to ensure that employability is at the heart of our degrees. This means that a Geography, Planning or Environmental Science degree from the University of Liverpool will give you the experience and skills for a wide range of career opportunities. Our Planning programmes in particular have strong connections with practice and contain client focused group project work.

By the time you graduate from the Department of Geography and Planning you will have developed valuable abilities such as numeracy, literacy, laboratory skills, critical thinking, team work, project management, graphicacy, GIS, research design policy analysis and many more.

This, combined with the high regard in which our qualifications are held, has enabled recent graduates to embark on rewarding careers with a broad range of public and private sector organisations.

Some are putting their geographical knowledge to direct use. Recent examples include working as an Environment Assistant for the Environment Agency, as a Town Planner and in Business Development.

Other Graduates are using the transferable skills they have gained in careers such as Accountancy, Teaching and Management. A significant number join major organisations' Graduate Training Programmes.

A number of our Planning programmes are accredited by the Royal Town Planning Institute and following two years of professional practice offer access to professional membership of the RTPI.

Given our research environment, gaining your Degree here is also perfect preparation for postgraduate study at Masters or PhD level, and for a ground-breaking academic career.
