The Garstang Research Centre supports a wide range of heritage science and collections-based research projects, enabling new approaches to the study of archaeological material. Through its combined physical and digital infrastructure, we support research that:
- Uses scientific and material analysis to study Garstang Museum collections.
- Reconnects excavation material held across 100+ institutions worldwide.
- Develops new approaches to heritage science, conservation and interpretation.
- Combines object-based research with digital analysis via the Garstang Archaeology Portal (GAP).
As part of Reconstructing the Ancient Past, we’re contributing to a major international effort to digitally reunite Garstang excavations - creating new opportunities for global, collaborative research.
Planning to work with us?
We welcome researchers working independently or in partnership with University of Liverpool academics and external organisations. Projects that make full use of both collections and digital tools are especially encouraged.
- Researchers applying for external grant funding to work with the Garstang collections or archive material are strongly advised to contact the curatorial team early to discuss your project in advance of submitting any funding application and secure necessary permissions.
- Submit a research project proposal form and a destructive testing application where needed.
- Capacity is limited, so early enquiries are strongly recommended.
