Inaugural lectures are typically staged in recognition of the appointment of University Chairs or Vice-Chancellors. They represent a significant milestone in the career of an academic, providing official recognition of their new role. The lecture offers an opportunity for the individual to showcase their academic achievements in research, innovation, engagement and further relevant activities, to a diverse audience comprising colleagues within higher education and related disciplines, as well as family, friends and the general public.  Lecturers usually reflect upon their research, their career and what the future might hold.  These events offer audiences the opportunity to hear from some of the world's most celebrated academics across a range of subjects.

The Vice-Chancellor’s inaugural lecture will be staged in recognition of her appointment at the University of Liverpool.
