DESCRIPTION:Hear from an UoL almunus, Dr Julie Torode, on her own career path and how a change can make a world of difference.Dr Julie Torode Dr Julie Torode is Director of Special Projects for Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), a global non-government organisation dedicated to cancer prevention and control, with a membership network of more than 1200 cancer organisations in 173 countries. Based in Geneva, UICC brings the cancer community together by convening high-profile events, provides opportunities for members to strengthen their skills, knowledge and networks and leads effective advocacy to ensure cancer remains a priority with governments. Julie has held several roles at UICC and is currently dedicating time to support the World Health Organization-led global effort to accelerate elimination of cervical cancer. With a BSc and PhD in Chemistry from Liverpool University, following post-doctoral research in Germany, Julie entered the health arena and subsequently field of oncology through leading clinical trials work across phases I-IV, first at a small clinical research organisation and then AstraZeneca one of the world’s leading pharmaceutical manufacturers - with a focus on breast and gynaecologic cancers while, nurturing an ongoing interest in cancer prevention. Julie now works internationally with a shift to public health policy and global advocacy working alongside United Nations agencies and government bodies.
