DESCRIPTION:Black History Month CSIS Public Lecture:Dismantling the Mammy: Enslaved Women in Modern Slave Studies with Professor Catherine Clinton.Catherine Clinton is the Denman Professor of American History at the University of Texas at San Antonio. She specializes in American History, with an emphasis on the history of American slavery, the American Civil War, American women, and African American history.She has held academic positions at numerous institutions of higher learning, including Harvard University, Brown University, and Queens University, Belfast. Professor Clinton has authored, edited, co-authored or co-edited more than twenty-five books to date and is also an author of children’s fiction.Professor Clinton has written for the History Channel, is a member of the Screen Writers Guild, and advisor on numerous documentaries and films, including Steven Spielberg's film Lincoln (2011).Wine and refreshments will be served from 5pm and the talk will begin at 5.30pm.
