SUMMARY:Intervening in management students' placement experience to remove barriers in the use of theory (Dr Simon Snowden)
DESCRIPTION:‘Theory is of no use to me in my work': Intervening in management students' placement experience to remove barriers in the use of theory for their day-to-day concrete professional practice.Students' educational experience appears to train them that theory is simply a set of mnemonics to be learnt for an exam. This study explores how we might change student orientation towards knowledge, such that theory becomes a tool to understand and intervene in the world of work.Refreshments will be available from 12.15pm and the seminar will start at 12.30pm. There will be time for discussion after the seminar for those who are able to stay.
