SUMMARY:Refugees in Literature, Film, Art, and Media
DESCRIPTION:This event aims to highlight the impact of different forms of cultural production and reception that have emerged within recent years. In literature, film, music and art, the cultural significance of creative production lies in addressing discrimination, perilous life conditions, and the fear of new beginnings.Academic researchers as well as writers, artists and activists participate in a one-day workshop that aims to open up new ways of thinking about refugees and telling the many important, yet untold stories of migration. These talks argue for a new understanding of refugees’ experience and embrace the heterogeneity of ethnicity and religious beliefs in order to achieve a more nuanced discourse in the media.This event includes talks by Prix Goncourt winning author and cinéaste Atiq Rahimi, journalist Daniel Trilling, photographer Frédéric Lecloux and writer Nasruddin Saljuqi, plus panels by other experts. The interdisciplinary workshop will conclude with a plenary discussion with Atiq Rahimi, Wali Ahmadi and Lida Amiri.Registration opens at 9:30, with the event starting at 10.
