SUMMARY:Public Lecture: Memory, History, and Heritage of Slavery: Lessons of an Unfinished Past
DESCRIPTION:As part of the Centre for the Study of International Slavery (CSIS) and International Slavery Museum (ISM) 10 year celebrations, the University of Liverpool are hosting a public lecture with special guest speaker Ana Lucia Araujo.Through a variety of case studies from different former slave societies in the Americas, Europe, and Africa, this lecture interrogates the complex dialogues among the concepts of history, public memory, collective memory, cultural memory, official memory, and public history. By discussing how these notions challenge the work of scholars, this lecture also shows how these various modes of engagement with the past relate to slavery and the Atlantic slave trade in both similar and different ways. Refreshments will be served on arrival. Please register for the lecture here.
