Kisiel, Ph.D. DePaul University School for New Learning Chicago, Illinois USADr. Kisiel’s primary scholarship is in early nineteenth-century British travel writing about the Ohio Valley and southern Illinois (roughly 1818-1835); she completed doctoral work in this arena at the University of Essex, Colchester, UK. Current research interests in this arena include the intersection of travel texts with geography concepts of ‘space’ and ‘place,’ the Ohio Valley as ‘contact zone,’ and British travel writers’ portrayals of slavery in the Ohio Valley region.
