SUMMARY:International Conference on “Minority Rights, Self-Government and the Law”
DESCRIPTION:Date: 15-16 September 2016The issue of Minority Rights, Self-Government and the Law is one of the most pressing contemporary questions and challenges facing Turkey at the level of state and academia. The Minority Rights Working Group in Turkey is convening a conference in order to foster conversations with their international colleagues on the different dimensions of autonomy including problems and prospects specific to Turkey. The conference is supported by the Raoul Wallenberg Institute (RWI) in Lund in collaboration with the Liverpool Law School.The Conference topics will include:•	Minority Groups and the International Institutional Framework•	Human Rights, Autonomy, and the Nation-State •	Autonomy Arrangements in Europe•	Political and Legal Background for Autonomy Arrangements in Turkey •	Middle East: Minority Rights and Self DeterminationThe Minority Rights Working Group (MRWG) in Turkey was established in February 2014 by early-career human rights academics from different disciplines and has been supported by the Raoul Wallenberg Institute (RWI) Turkey Program.
