DESCRIPTION:EducationUndergraduate education at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology and A.A. Bogomoletz Institute of Physiology in Kiev (1978-1984), Faculty of Physical Chemistry. Received BSc in 1984. Postgraduate education at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology and A.A. Bogomoletz Institute of Physiology in Kiev (1984 - 1987). Received PhD in 1988. Research careerAlexei started his scientific career as a Research Associate in the Department of Neuroscience at A.A. Bogomoletz Institute of Physiology, Kiev (1987-1990). In 1990 he joined the laboratory of Professor Ole Petersen in the Department of Physiology at the University of Liverpool as a visiting researcher. In 1992 Alexei became a lecturer. His career continued at Liverpool and in 2002 he became Professor of Physiology.  In 2023, after closure of the Department of Physiology, Alexei moved to the Department of Molecular &amp; Clinical Cancer Medicine. In 2025 he formally retired and became Honorary Professor in the same Department.  Alexei continues to investigate the mechanisms of cell signalling, autophagy and pancreatitis.
