SUMMARY:Dr Alexandra Davies, University of Manchester (online via Teams)
DESCRIPTION:Title: 'Location, location, location: subcellular spatial proteomics to map protein localisation in neurodegenerative diseases'Dr Alexandra Davies is a Lecturer in Cell Biology in the Division of Molecular and Cellular Function, in the School of Biological Sciences, University of Manchester. She is a cell biologist who combines expertise in proteomics, microscopy and iPSC models, to study the mechanisms of rare neurological disorders caused by defects in protein trafficking.Alex studied Genetics at the University of Glasgow and completed her PhD under the supervision of Prof Margaret (Scottie) Robinson at the Cambridge Institute for Medical Research. She then moved to the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry in Munich to conduct postdoctoral research investigating the mechanisms of AP-4 deficiency syndrome and to train in mass spectrometry. In February 2023, Alex took up a Lectureship at the University of Manchester where she is establishing a lab focused on the role of protein mislocalisation in neurological disease. She was awarded a Springboard Award from the Academy of Medical Sciences in 2024. Please email for Zoom link.
