SUMMARY:Women@Liverpool – How to navigate motherhood in the academy
DESCRIPTION:In the face of evidence of a growing ‘motherhood’ penalty for highly educated workers, and recent research on how the culture of the academy can undermine ‘family friendly’ policies, this session brings together academic women from across the university to share their experiences, and offer a space for discussion on how to navigate the motherhood and an academic career.The event will be chaired by Professor Catherine Durose (Heseltine Institute, she/hers).The session will open with Dr. Laura Radcliffe and Dr. Rachel Ashman (Management School) sharing insights from their own research and beyond on motherhood and work.We will then have a panel discussion, where colleagues will share their experiences and respond to questions about mothering in the academy.The panel will include:Dr. Nikki Power, Senior Lecturer in Organisational BehaviourDr Vera Slavtcheva-Petkova, Reader in Global Journalism and MediaDr Leanne Burton, Research Associate in Primary Care &amp; Mental HealthDr Shreyashi Dasgupta, Lecturer in Critical Social &amp; Political GeographyA networking lunch will take places from 12-1pm.
