DESCRIPTION:To date, for reasons only known to themselves, broadcast media has not seen fit to make a fly-on-the-wall series following the day-to-day life of an aerospace engineering academic. This is your chance to see what they are missing out on.Prof. Jump started his aerospace career as an Aerodynamics engineer at BAE Systems, working primarily on what became Typhoon but also on Hawk, Tornado, Nimrod and even Canberra aircraft. Following a period in an aerospace-focused consultancy, Prof. Jump returned to academia to undertake a PhD at Liverpool to develop nature-inspired pilot display technologies. This resulted in the award of a US Patent. He subsequently joined the academic staff of the University, and continues to teach on the Aerospace Engineering degree programmes and to conduct research, largely into safety-related aspects of pilot-vehicle systems as well as technologies to enable the use of uncrewed vehicles. His pioneering work into personal aerial vehicle handling qualities has been used in a US study related to the so-called Advanced/Urban Air Mobility concepts that, if their proponents are correct, will form the air taxi fleet of the future.You are therefore cordially invited to come along and find out what has occupied Prof. Jump’s time at Liverpool and beyond.
