Hosted by: Dr. Blaine Keetch, Computer Science University Teacher and former Samaritans listening volunteer.Please note this event is open to all and everybody is welcome.Do you ever feel like no one is truly listening to you? Do you get frustrated when people offer their advice when they haven’t bothered to truly understand what’s troubling you?In a world where seemingly everyone is talking, sometimes we forget that staying quiet and truly listening is equally as important. For two years, Blaine was a listening volunteer for Samaritans, a charity which offers support to its callers who are in emotional distress, including distress of a suicidal nature. In providing emotional support, the charity endeavours to aid the caller in exploring their distress via the practice of active listening.In this session, the host will talk about the following key themes:  Samaritans listening volunteers - Blaine will discuss the services provided by the charity and who can access their support, and will also share experience on what they learnt about mental health as a listening volunteer Practice of active listening. - What is active listening, and why is it an effective tool in the fight against poor mental health? Why it’s the career and life superpower you never knew you needed.    Male mental health. - Blaine will share their own personal and career perspectives on men’s mental health and offer ideas on how to improve one's own mental health, and how to support the mental health of other men.
