SUMMARY:Prof Jude Curran Inaugural Lecture: The Appliance of Bioinspired Science - Keeping Relevant in a Changing World.
DESCRIPTION:This talk will present the most recent advances in a number of active research projects including the role of surface engineering in bone and neuronal tissue engineering applications. It will also cover Professor Jude Curran's work on the standardisation of in vitro test regimes and recent advancements in the design and optimisation of tri-functional nanosensors that have the ability to quantify O2, pH and glucose in real-time through 3D cell-testing regimes. The application and combination of fundamental biological and engineering science to the development of cost-effective standardised test regimes has been key to developing fundamental concepts from the bench to real-world scenarios. Finally, the talk will present the latest developments in cost-effective, real-time, label-free tracking of nonentities through biological solutions, and the application of this platform technology to pre-clinical testing regimes and models of infection. This has the potential to expedite new drug discovery and anti-microbial/viral therapies.
