DESCRIPTION:In this talk, we will explore the links between Fibonacci’s sequence and the golden ratio, and the irrational but clever way in which some plants grow. We will take in some history, some continued fractions, some geometry and some algebra.Damian Haigh is Headteacher at the University of Liverpool Maths School. He is the serving President of the Liverpool Mathematical Society and this is his Presidential Lecture.
