SUMMARY:From chemistry to manufacturing: Printing a resilient future - Prof Kate Black (Inaugural lecture)
DESCRIPTION:Professor Black is a multidisciplinary researcher, lecturer and businesswoman focused on elevating the additive manufacturing (AM) industry through chemistry, engineering and collaboration. Kate's research interests are primarily focused on the development of novel functional materials for their use in inkjet and binder jet printing for multi-material manufacturing. Her main area of expertise is in the development of Reactive Organo-Metallic (ROM) inks to develop bespoke material systems for additive manufacturing processes. In 2019 Kate co-founded Meta Additive (now part of the Desktop Metal family), as a spin-out from the University of Liverpool. Their work on 3D printing metal and ceramic processes is revolutionising the industry’s capabilities and enabling additive manufacturing on a mass scale. In 2014, Kate was awarded membership to the EPSRC Early Career Forum in Manufacturing Research. Kate is a campaigner for greater diversity in the STEM workforce.
