Chris graduated from the University of Cambridge in 1988 and worked in mixed practice for 2 years before completing a Residency in Equine Surgery at the University of Liverpool in 1993. He was awarded a PhD in Veterinary Parasitology at the University in 1996. He then returned work in the equine hospital  as a senior clinician and was  subsequently appointed Professor of Equine Studies in 2005. He holds the RCVS Certificate in Equine Orthopaedics, the RCVS Diploma of Fellowship in Equine Gastroenterology and is an RCVS Specialist in Equine Gastroenterology.

Chris has competed as a point-to-point jockey and provides veterinary services at Aintree and Haydock Park racecourses.
