Personal Statement
Gavin (Guanpeng) Dong was appointed as a Lecturer in Geographic Data Science in 2016. Prior to this, he was a Research Associate in Quantitative Methods in Sheffield Methods Institute, University of Sheffield (2014-2016). During this time, he was involved in the Applied Quantitative Methods Network (AQMeN) project, collaborating closely with statisticians, economists and geographers to apply and develop spatial (spatio-temporal) statistical and economic sorting models for exploring issues of urban segregation and inequality and environmental justice in the UK. Gavin finished his PhD in Advanced Quantitative Methods at School of Geographical Sciences and Centre for Multilevel Modelling (CMM), University of Bristol (2011-2014). His PhD focused on developing integrated spatial statistics and multilevel modelling approaches to accommodate both horizontal spatial effects and vertical contextual effects underlying data. Before this, he graduated from the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academic of Sciences, Beijing, China.
