We are delighted to announce that NNL Fellow in Geology and current University Lead, Nick Smith, has been appointed as Honorary Professor in the Department of Earth, Ocean and Ecological Sciences at the University of Liverpool. In this role, Nick, who led NNL’s geology, geographical information systems and remote sensing technical areas for 14 years, will work with NNL and the University to further develop our research and skills collaborations.

Richard Worden, University of Liverpool Professor of Geology,  said “We are delighted with the appointment of Nick as Honorary Professor the Department of Earth, Ocean and Ecological Sciences at the University of Liverpool. We are looking forward to collaborating with Nick (who has held an Honorary Research Fellowship for over ten years at the University) and NNL, including NNL’s recently appointed Geocience Technical Lead, and current Honorary Research Fellow at the University, Dr  Josh Griffiths, on a range of nuclear-related geoscience research topics. This appointment furthers and strengthens the already strong collaboration between University of Liverpool and NNL in nuclear science and technology”

Nick said “I was excited and thrilled to be appointed as Honorary Professor at the University of Liverpool, with whom I have already had a ten year long relationship as Honorary Research Fellow. I’m looking forward to working with Richard and his team, and NNL colleagues, as we further develop the collaboration, exploring topics such as deep geological disposal, contaminant geology, sedimentology, structural geology and tectonics, to underpin the UK’s commitment to Net Zero 20150.”
