BAAL 2020 Liverpool

BAAL 2020 (ONLINE)

Language Learning and Teaching SIG (ONLINE)

To replace the face to face conference, we are hosting the three scheduled plenary talks as online webinars on July 9th and 10th 2020. Each webinar broadly addresses the conference theme of ‘research and practice on the teaching and learning of languages’.

University of Liverpool, 9-10th July 2020

The department of English, University of Liverpool, is pleased to host the 16th BAAL Language Learning and Teaching SIG at the University of Liverpool from Thursday 9th July to Friday 10th July 2020. This year’s theme will be :

Research and practice in the teaching and learning of languages

Research in language learning and teaching and the actual practice of language learning and teaching are sometimes considered as very separate concerns. Despite this, researchers, teachers, learners, and teacher trainers share many related concerns, whichever context they may work in. These may relate to, for example, effectiveness of methodology, effectiveness of materials, how to develop and harness motivation, assessment, the role of L1, language learning processes and teacher education.

This conference will encourage participants to consider how research and practice can inform each other and how we might all learn from each aspect.

  • What does research into language learning processes tell us about the impact of pedagogy in different contexts?
  • How does research inform teaching practices and vice versa?
  • How does research and practice relate to  teachers of learners of different ages?
  • How do we assess language learning in different contexts?
  • What are the challenges facing us when applying research and practice within teacher education?

Papers and posters are invited from researchers or practitioners in any field of language learning and teaching, to focus on any aspect of the conference theme. We hope to welcome a variety of presentations from the worlds of MFL, EAL, EFL, ESOL and any other language learning context.
