Our Mission

"To provide technical and pedagogical knowledge to strengthen, develop and support, focused innovative learning. CEDS will undertake this activity through partnership working that will positively impact on the student experience locally, nationally and globally by creating an effective environment for knowledge exchange"


Based in the Education directorate, CEDS is a bespoke centre offering TEL and Pedagogical services to all staff across the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences. CEDS brings together a wide provision of support for both academic and PS staff activity, including Technical Project Developments, Quality Assurance, support for Educational Research and Lifelong Learning.

Activities undertaken include:

  • Assistance in programme/module/course/Lifelong Learning (CPD) development and business activity.
  • Delivering cutting edge support for learning and teaching in Educational Technology.
  • Peer observation/constructive feedback of teaching or individual modules to help improve the use of TEL quality.
  • Module or course reviews to help develop the use of TEL.
  • Facilitating effective communication exchange by bringing together staff with similar research or teaching interests, including Learner Analytics, Mobile App Development, 3D Imaging, Simulation, Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR).
  • To be inclusive of all staff technical abilities by offering support to professional services and academic staff in all areas of technology needs.
  • Provision of practical focused teaching and assessment skills courses.CEDS Activities 

The CEDS works in coordination and align activity to that of the TEL Academics within schools, the Centre for Innovation for Education and The Academy, to deliver maximum education impact and to ensure delivery of University Education Strategy Vision for 2026.
