Versus Arthritis Feature - Dr Clare Pain
Dr Clare Pain has been featured in the Versus Arthritis "All of Us" research edition where she talks about her work on juvenile scleroderma and ensuring that we have the patient voice throughout our work.
"Working with children and learning from them is one of the real highlights of what we do"
Development of a urinary biomarker assay - Dr Eve Smith
Currently, it is difficult to monitor lupus nephritis in clinic as the tests can be invasive and the less invasive tests are not precise. Therefore there is a need to develop better ways to detect lupus nephritis disease activity.
Dr Smith, a NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturer, was the winner of a Merck Millipore competition to receive a Luminex MAGPIX System. She was also awarded funding from the MRC Confidence in Concept scheme. The combination of these two awards allowed her to develop a custom multiplex assay to measure six urinary biomarkers and validate them in urine samples from children with lupus nephritis.
Dr Smith project is an excellent example of industry engagement in translational, patient centred research, and has been the trigger for many ongoing projects.
Select Science have created a video to highlight Dr Smith's work here.
