The Department of Earth, Ocean and Ecological Sciences brings together three research groups comprising staff in Earth Sciences, Ocean Sciences, and Ecology and Marine Biology. These three groups address the research themes Geohazards & Tectonics, Future Energy, Deep Earth, Oceans & Climate, and Ecosystem Dynamics. Our world-leading researchers use a wide range of research methods and state-of-the-art laboratory and computational facilities.
Research in our Department is focused on understanding how our fascinating planet works. Our interests range from exploring the evolution, resources and hazards of the solid earth; investigating links between ocean circulation, sea-level rise and climate change; to ecology and marine biology researching how marine terrestrial and ecosystems function.
