Stability of detrital grain-coating clays during sediment transport

Congratulations to Adriana Crisostomo Figueroa for winning the BSRG Award for Masters Sedimentology!

Her project, supervised by Dr Iris Verhagen, consisted of a series of flume tank experiments to study the effect of sediment transport on the stability of detrital grain-coating clays (see images on the right). This is interesting because these detrital clays are often interpreted as pre-cursors for diagenetic grain-coatings that are associated with high porosity in hydrocarbon reservoirs.

As part of the award, Adriana is invited to give a presentation about her project at the next BSRG Annual Meeting in Newcastle! (https://conferences.ncl.ac.uk/bsrg2017/).
