Postgraduate Courses

Our Masters programmes give you the opportunity to increase your knowledge and skills in a way that matches your academic and professional interests.

  • MRes Applied Ecology and Conservation (Programme Currently Suspended)
Programme length: 1 year full time

  • MSc Marine Planning & Management
Programme length: 1 year full time, or 2 years part time

These programmes are all interdisciplinary in nature and are taught by experts in conservation biology, ecology, marine and population ecology, genetics, environmental planning, ocean science, management, law and geography.

A good range of optional modules means you can gain the qualification you want, whilst the wide range of research interests here will give you plenty of choice when it comes to planning your research project.

Students on our MRes Applied Ecology and Conservation programmes can visit our long-term study sites on Puffin Island or in the Peak District National Park.

Marine Planning & Management Masters Students, who are jointly taught by the Civic Design, will get good exposure to the new planning environment created by the Marine & Coastal Access Act (2009).

We want to try and help you prepare for the day-to-day costs of studying. These might include things like photocopying in the library, buying textbooks and specialist equipment or going on field classes. We have put together tables of additional costs for guidance, for each subject area, including where departments make contributions towards these costs. The Study costs guide should help you with your budgeting.
